Wallbox Airline 2019

Brand Event · Barcelona · 2019

Corporate event for Wallbox in Barcelona with a proprietary airline thematic concept. Five hundred members of the Wallbox team at an internal cohesion event with full art direction in a Wallbox Airlines key. Two years before the NYSE listing.

The challenge

Five hundred employees who deserve something better than a company cocktail.

An event for five hundred people at a growing tech start-up has two opposing risks. The first is falling short: a dinner with a CEO speech and background music reproduces the company cocktail nobody remembers three days later. The second is going too far: a production that looks more expensive than the quarter's salaries generates the opposite reaction.

The concept has to find the equilibrium that makes the team feel the company is genuinely celebrating them, without falling into either extreme. Added to that is the operational task of producing an event for five hundred people with real logistical coordination: access, catering, audiovisual, and artistic direction for a space that functions at that scale.

Bacus's response

Wallbox Airlines: the company imagines it also makes aircraft.

Bacus developed the Wallbox Airlines concept as the narrative envelope of the event. The proposal starts from an identity game: if Wallbox can redesign the way we charge our cars, why not imagine it also has its own airline? The concept is a shared fiction with the entire team, treated with real production.

The artistic direction of the space was built in an aviation register: signage, production team attire, reception format, and decorative elements that transformed the venue into a Wallbox Airlines terminal. Five hundred people who work in technology have the capacity to enjoy a well-executed brand joke, but it only works if the production is at the level of the concept. The catering, the audiovisual, and the flow coordination were designed to make the experience coherent from beginning to end.

The experience

The Wallbox team boards its own airline.

Five hundred Wallbox people arrived at a space that did not resemble any previous company event. The reception operated with check-in logic: access through a check-in zone, boarding gate signage, production team uniformed in the Wallbox Airlines crew style. The main space reproduced the cabin of an aircraft at corporate event scale.

The concept was never explained. There was no speech saying 'tonight we imagine Wallbox has an airline.' The production simply executed it and the team entered the game. That is the difference between a concept that works as an experience and a concept that works as a presentation. When the production is good, the narrative does not need to be explained.

The result

Five hundred Wallbox people at the company event of the year.

Wallbox Airlines brought five hundred Wallbox team members together in Barcelona in 2019. Bacus's full production covered the concept, artistic direction, audiovisual, catering, and logistical coordination of the event. The event took place two years before Wallbox's NYSE listing, when the company was still operating at start-up speed without the public visibility that would come later.

Frequently asked questions · Wallbox Airline 2019

What readers ask after this case.

  • The themed concept works when the production is coherent with the concept at all contact points: signage, team attire, audiovisual, catering, and attendee flow. If any of those elements breaks with the concept — low-quality printed signage, an un-uniformed waiter, a generic audiovisual — the fiction collapses and the effort of the rest dissolves. In Wallbox Airline 2019, Bacus designed the complete visual identity of the event with the detail level of a real airline: airport signage typography, individual boarding passes, and production attire designed in a crew key. The Wallbox team entered the game without anyone having to explain it.

  • A five-hundred-person event in Barcelona with an artistic concept, production direction, and catering requires simultaneous management of several operational lines: venue selection and negotiation with real capacity for that headcount without space saturation, access and reception flow design to absorb arrivals in short time windows, audiovisual technical production sized to the space, catering team with sufficient staff ratio for queue-free service, assembly and dismantling coordination within the venue's windows, and artistic direction integrated with each of those elements. Bacus manages all lines under a single client contact, eliminating the friction points between suppliers.

  • In fast-growing companies like Wallbox in 2019, teams have a high incorporation pace and little time to build shared culture. The company event is one of the few moments when the entire workforce coincides outside the project context. The condition for that moment to work is for the event to have its own character: one that does not resemble work or a social obligation. A concept like Wallbox Airlines, where the company narrates itself in a playful way with real production, generates a shared memory that teams keep referencing months later.

  • Bacus produces events for companies at different moments in their cycle: from expanding start-ups to listed companies with established communications protocols. In Wallbox's case, Bacus produced the 2019 company event when the company was still operating at start-up speed, and continued as the reference producer in subsequent years, including the large summer 2022 event — Wallbox Attacks Summer at Cavas Codorníu, awarded two Eventoplus Bronzes. Production continuity allows maintaining the level of client knowledge that makes each event more efficient than the previous one.
