Gala Dinner · Casa Batlló, Barcelona · 2014

Wine tasting for Siris Capital Group, a New York-based private equity fund, held at Casa Batlló by Antoni Gaudí (UNESCO World Heritage). Paired tasting in gala dinner format. Bronze Award, Eventoplus — Best Catering Concept.

The challenge

Treading on UNESCO Heritage without treating it as a backdrop.

The chosen venue was Casa Batlló on Passeig de Gràcia. A building by Antoni Gaudí, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most visited pieces of Catalan Modernisme, and a cultural asset that any American investor recognises before landing. The editorial opportunity was immediate. So was the operational difficulty.

A UNESCO heritage venue imposes restrictions that admit no interpretation. Floor load capacity, room temperature, anchorage points, the building's architectural lighting regime, catering staff flow patterns, and the timetable of use compatible with the museum's daytime operations are boundary conditions that are not negotiated. Any proposal for scenography, technical assembly, or room service is evaluated first against those restrictions.

The editorial challenge added another layer. A premium wine tasting inside Gaudí competes with the building itself for the guest's attention. If the catering is executed as a standard company gala dinner, the venue swallows the evening and the tasting goes unnoticed. If it is executed as a standalone editorial piece, the building is relegated to background. The balance was demanding: make the tasting as elevated as Gaudí, and ensure Gaudí did not eclipse the tasting.

Bacus's response

The tasting as editorial content inside Gaudí.

Bacus structured the evening as a single continuous narrative divided into courses, in which the wine tasting articulated the rhythm of the night while the venue functioned as a frame. The structure began with a ceremonial arrival along the Passeig de Gràcia façade, reception on the building's main floor, a paired tasting in successive courses coordinated with the kitchen service, and an extended after-dinner in one of the singular spaces of the building. Closed attendance of international guests, seated format, individual attention per table.

The wine selection was built on a reading of the guest. North American financial profile, a palate accustomed to international references, an expectation of discovery. The list combined prestigious Spanish denominación de origen references with European wines that would converse with each course of the menu and allow the sommelier to build the evening's narrative as a conversation, not a catalogue. Each course had its editorial anchor: why this wine, why this dish, why this order.

Bacus signed the overall artistic direction, integrating sommelier team, kitchen, room service, complementary architectural lighting of the salon, and scene direction on the day. The building was worked without covering anything. No additional scenography, no visible technical structure, no projection onto stone. The intervention concentrated where the guest's eye rested up close: the table, the glass, the plate, the conversation with the sommelier.

The experience

The guest enters via Passeig de Gràcia and immediately understands where they are.

The arrival was designed as a ceremonial opening. Reception at the façade, ascent via the building's interior staircase, first welcome space with an opening glass and a direct view of the architectural elements for which the building is recognised worldwide. The international financial guest, accustomed to galas in hotels and conventional ballrooms, registers immediately that the evening is being played in a different venue category.

The move to the tasting happened with the room already set — formal table, glasses aligned, sommelier in position. The first course opened the night's conversation. From that point, the pace was set by the coordination between kitchen, room, and sommelier. Each dish arrived accompanied by the note for the wine crossing it. Table conversation revolved around what was being drunk, not around external noise. And the building's architecture remained in the background, present without imposing — a constant reminder of the city in which the fund had decided to convene its circle.

The after-dinner extended inside the building itself. Guests closed the evening with the feeling of having been received in a space not rented out for any dinner, attended by a service that knew every reference on the list, and participants in a conversation the fund had built specifically for that night.

The result

Bronze Eventoplus for Best Catering Application.

The production was recognised by the Eventoplus jury with a Bronze award in the Best Catering Application category. The recognition validates what the client had contracted: a company gala dinner in Barcelona where catering is not support but editorial content, executed within Casa Batlló as the exclusive venue with operational discipline compatible with the restrictions of a UNESCO heritage site.

The Eventoplus Awards are the leading professional recognition in the Spanish corporate event industry and function as a market reference for demanding B2B clients. An Eventoplus catering award in this category documents in verifiable terms the level at which Bacus operates the gastronomic piece within a corporate event at a heritage venue. The relationship with Siris closed with the evening producing the effect the fund had requested: a night its international circle could recount in Manhattan.

What readers ask after this case.

  • Yes. Casa Batlló admits corporate event production in closed format under specific conditions of capacity, calendar, and compatibility with the museum's daytime operations. Bacus produces company gala dinners and corporate wine tastings at UNESCO heritage venues such as Casa Batlló, coordinating artistic direction, non-invasive scenography, premium catering, and room service compatible with the building's restrictions. Each project is worked to brief: guest count, format, date, and the objective of the fund or company organising the event.

  • For private equity funds, investment banks, and international financial clients, the most requested format is a seated paired tasting with a gala dinner at an exclusive venue, closed attendance, and individual attention per table. Bacus designs the selection for the specific guest profile and coordinates sommelier, kitchen, and room service as a single editorial piece.

  • Bacus operates at UNESCO heritage venues and listed buildings with a script closed to hours and minutes, a technical rehearsal before the event, unified scene direction on the day, and documented knowledge of the load, lighting, and usage restrictions of each space. The agency's track record includes professional industry recognitions — among them a Bronze Eventoplus award for Best Catering Application for this Casa Batlló production — that verify the execution level at exclusive venues within Barcelona's cultural heritage.

  • The Siris Capital wine tasting at Casa Batlló received the Eventoplus award in the Bronze category for Best Catering Application. The Eventoplus Awards are the leading professional recognition in the Spanish corporate event sector, and the awarded category specifically validates the quality of the gastronomic work within the event's overall production — wine selection, pairing, kitchen execution, sommelier coordination, and service discipline in a UNESCO heritage venue.
